The Marriage Challenge

If you follow my posts, you know that I am married and that I have a husband who is my love and support through my trials these past years. We both believe that our marriage is tremendously important to us and if we are willing to put forth the effort, we can make your marriage better. Sometimes that seems like a daunting task; perhaps we are too busy to make the time or we don't know where to start. Sometimes the concepts are nebulous or fraught with misunderstanding (submission, anyone?) I have read a book that offers practical ways to make your marriage thrive.

Beware! This book could change not only your marriage, it can change you. I've been married for 37 years and it is so easy to fall into complacency about marriage. We forget that relationships take work, whether they are with co-workers, family, friends or God. Relationships take time and commitment. This book addresses 30 ways that you can make a change that will make you a better spouse.

If you follow Becky Moseley on her blog, Tales of Beauty for Ashes, you already know that she is well acquainted with marriage in all its complexity. She is open with her struggles and successes. The book is an effort to use what she has learned to help others make marriage work. What I found interesting is that almost all of the challenges would improve any relationship. (Those that are specific to marriage are obvious!) As the book changes you, you will see improvements in all of your important relationships.

Some changes are simple; a few require a great deal of work or thought. Each day presents a typical situation that requires a choice of response. It helps you think of examples of a similar situation in your marriage. Then the challenge is given along with some practical ways to accomplish it. Each day is a quick read; take your time to think about it and resist the urge to read ahead!! Each day has enough challenge for its own. Take as many days as you need to really work through how each challenge can be applied to your own situation. Don’t miss the Epilogue; evaluation is critical to success.

The book will be released February 9 (just in time for Valentines Day!!) but is available now for pre-order. This is one I will read again, probably at regular intervals. I hope you take a look and find it as helpful as I do.
